Have you heard of DEF as of yet? If you haven’t you sure will.  The future is here indeed. Beginning in January 2010, Freightliner will be rolling out it’s 2010 EPA engines. That is actually great news. Why? Well we now know that the DD15 engine platform is performing better than anyone expected. And with those terrific results we will see better fuel economy because of DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid). DEF is injected into the exhaust stream which reacts with NOx in SCR catalyst. To make a long story short, this SCR  system uses much less EGR and allows the engine to function at higher and more optimal combustion terperatures, providing increased fuel efficiency and power.
